On her way home from school, Anizou finds a book left behind by a troll. Page after page, she names the animals she discovers, and they immediately appear, populating the snow-covered landscape around her. This is how she begins to re-enchant the forest, which no longer seems empty and silent to her.
Beyond this simple, improbable, and fantastic encounter, Jennifer Dalrymple subtly evokes the broken ties with nature, to which we fully belong but from which we have distanced ourselves. To reconnect these ties, all it takes is paying a little attention to our non-human neighbors: recognizing is knowing and hearing.
