The Ant and the Grasshoper is a famous fable by Jean de La Fontaine. It tells the story of two characters: a very idle but altruistic grasshoper and a very provident but not very lending ant. Unlike some of these fables such as The Hare and the Tortoise, this one has the particularity to present no explicit moral. Indeed, Jean de La Fontaine does not explicitly take the side of one or the other since to condemn the grasshoper would be to condemn himself and condemn the ant would be to value the practical life rather than art.
