The Crow and the Fox is a famous fable by Jean de La Fontaine. It tells the story of two characters: a noble and vain crow and a poor but eloquent fox.
Unlike some of these fables, such as The Ant and the Grasshoper, The Crow and the Fox has an explicit moral: "Learn from every flatterer.Learn that all flatterers live at the expense of those who listen to them. Through these animals with human vices, Jean de La Fontaine offers a scathing critique of his society. He criticizes human vanity and shows that social position is not everything since it is the fox, embodying the people, who emerges victorious from this encounter.
