In 1936, Jean and his friends René, Claude, Suzanne, and Luigi share their daily lives at school and outside between fishing trips and football matches. Their parents, workers in the factories of Saint-Étienne, work hard to provide for their families. On Sunday, May 3, 1936, their lives are turned upside down: the Popular Front is elected in the legislative elections. Soon, the workers take to the streets to defend their rights: better working conditions and paid vacations. By listening to his parents and the radio, and discussing with his friends, Jean witnesses the changes brought about by the election of the Popular Front. He experiences the workers' struggle through the eyes of a child, but he fully understands its significance when his own dreams come true with his first family vacation at the seaside.
