From the very first bite, digestion begins. Food travels nearly 9 meters inside our body over the course of 10 to 24 hours!
First step, the mouth: the teeth cut and grind the food; saliva helps with chewing and starts digestion; the food is reduced to a mush called the bolus. Then, it heads to the stomach!
Second step, the bolus is kneaded and crushed. It turns into a liquid mush called chyme.
Third step, the intestine: along the way, the liver sends bile and the pancreas releases enzymes. The chyme is then transformed into nutrients: fats, sugars, and proteins!
But the journey isn't over yet...
