Today Charlie is watching a tennis match on TV. He loves tennis. His friends James, Stella and Vidisha are watching too. It's the women's semi-final at Wimbledon, with Sophie Peters. She is a very famous champion. - Look, it's Sophie Peters, says James. She's great! -Yes! Come on, Sophie! shouts Stella. You can do it! - I'd love to go to a Wimbledon final one day! thinks Charlie.
The next day, at school, Charlie and his friends are playing football in the playground. They see the new boy, Tommy. He is on his own. -Tommy, do you want to play football with us? asks Charlie. - No thanks, Tommy says. I'm no good at sport. Don't worry! says Charlie. Football is easy! He shows Tommy some football moves. Tommy gets the ball... but he falls over! - Are you OK, Tommy? asks Stella. -I'm OK but I'm no good at football, he says sadly.
During Assembly, Mrs Kent, the head mistress, talks to the children. - Tomorrow is Sports Day, she says, and I have a very big surprise. The winners will get tickets for the Wimbledon final on Saturday. The children are very excited! - Wow, says Charlie. The Wimbledon final! That's fantastic! -Yes, we MUST win tomorrow! says Stella.
The next day is Sports Day. The children are wearing their P.E. kits: blue shorts and yellow top. Their teacher, Miss Todd, reads out the teams. - Team A: Alisha, Ben, Harry, Marcus, Su Lin, Tommy, Vicky, William. Some children are not very happy. - Oh no! they say. We don't want Tommy on our team! He's no good at sport. Miss Todd is not happy with the children. - That's not nice at all, she says. - Miss, says Charlie, Tommy can be on our team. - Good, thank you, Charlie, says Miss Todd.
The first race is the egg and spoon race. Stella and Tommy are running for Charlie's team. Stella is very quick. She wins the race. - Well done, Stella! shouts James. Tommy's not doing very well. -Ouch! My foot! he says. Where's my egg? -Come on, Tommy! shouts Charlie. You can do it! Stella has 5 points. But Tommy has no points. Charlie's team loses the egg and spoon race.
