It's the 22nd of December. Charlie phones his friend James: - Hi James! It's Charlie. I'm going to Hamleys with Stella tonight. Charlie likes Hamleys. It's a great toy shop in London. - Can I go with you? asks James. James likes Hamleys too! - Sure! See you later! says Charlie. The children are in Hamleys, in Regent Street. - Wow, Hamleys is great! says Stella. There are millions of toys here! She sees some really nice frisbees: - I want a frisbee for Christmas.
Charlie puts on a scary mask. - Raaa! he growls. Stella jumps. - It's scary, Charlie! Stop it! ≠ I love this mask, laughs Charlie. I want a scary mask for Christmas. - I've got a sword, says James. I'm not scared. - You're a hero, James! laughs Stella. - I love this sword, says James. I want a pirate sword for Christmas.
The children are in the basement. There are some great video games. -James, look! The Monster Bill game! says Charlie. - Cool! Let's play, Charlie! says James. Stella is not happy with the boys: - What about me? - No! Monster Bill is too scary for girls, says James. - No, it's not! says Stella. Cool graphics. I want to play with you! The two boys look at each other: - OK Stella! Let's play! The three children play for hours. At 10 pm, there is an announcement: "Children, ladies and gentlemen, the shop is closing. Please go to the exit." But where are the three children? They're asleep in the basement! They can't hear the announcement.
At midnight, Charlie wakes up. - Where am I? he panics. James, Stella! Wake up! We're in Hamleys. I think it's closed. James wakes up. - Oh no, he says, what a disaster! Stella wakes up. - Wow, she says, what an adventure! - My mobile is dead, says Charlie. Have you got a mobile? - No, I haven't, say Stella and James, together. The three children go up the stairs to the exit . The doors are closed. - Let's find a phone! says Stella. There's an office on the first floor. - Let's go to the first floor! says Charlie. - Good idea, Charlie, says James. - What? It's my idea! says Stella. She's not happy with the boys.
They go up to the first floor. It's dark, very dark. Suddenly, Stella stops. She can see something. - Look, she says quietly. Is it... a monster? - A m... mon... monster? says Charlie. He is a bit scared. On the first floor, Stella stops again. - Listen, says Stella. Is it... a ghost? - A gh... ghos... ghost? says James. He is a bit scared. Stella starts laughing. - It's not a monster. It's not a ghost, she says. It's a robot! The boys feel a bit silly.
