The route of the great plains

The route of the great plains

That morning, Moko tells himself that it is time to leave Mei-Li’s land and he gets his raft ready. A man tells him that he must take the route of the great plains to continue his journey. Moko goes to the village to bid farewell to Mei-Li who has made rice cakes for him. One morning a few days after his departure he reaches the famous route where the horizon seems never-ending. As he walks a great gust of wind makes him fall and drop his precious stone. Seeing it on the ground, Moko thinks of Mei-Li and tells himself he must go on for those he has left behind. He goes on while clutching his stone in his hand. Moko’s heart lightens as he thinks that one day his travels will bring him back to those he loves.

The route of the great plains
One morning, Moko told himself that it was time to leave Meï-Li's country and continue on his travels.
He headed down to the beach to prepare his boat. The fisherman stopped him. If you're heading away, it should not be by sea. You should take the route of the great plains, beyond the mountains. And do not forget, my young traveler, that if you want to come back to us one day, you must leave behind what is most precious to you.
Mei-Li had come along to say goodbye. She held a transparent stone, as clear as a mountain stream, and as blue as underwater coral glistening in the sunshine. Here, she said. Take this stone, so that you won't forget me. I will come back to you, promised Moko. Of all I leave behind… You are the most precious!
