Depuis quelques nuits, Johnny Lapin est réveillé par d’étranges bruits. For the last few nigts, Johnny Rabbit has been awakened by strange noises.

De son clapier, il entend des petits sifflements et des grincements de bois. C’est bizarre, se dit-il. From his hutch, he can hear faint whistling and the creaking of wood. That’s odd, he thinks.

La nuit suivante, Johnny se cache derrière les clapiers et attend, muni de sa lampe de poche. Il veut savoir d’où viennent ces bruits. The next night, Johnny hides behind the hutch and wait with his torch. He wants to know where the noises are coming from.

Johnny est presque endormi quand tout à coup, il entend des petites voix qui se rapprochent. - Chut ! Faites moins de bruit les enfants, chut. Johnny is about to sleep when suddendly he hears little voices coming nearer. - Hush ! Don’t make so much noise, children, hush.

Johnny allume sa lampe. Johnny switches on his torch. Il découvre toute une famille de coucous qui virevolte au-dessus de la cour. He sees a family of cuckoos doing pirouettes above the yard.

- Oh, non ! crie le plus gros coucou. - Tu es démasqué, s’écrie Johnny. - Oh, no ! cries out the biggest cuckoo. - You’ve been discovered, exclaims Johnny. - Mais c’est Max, le coucou de l’horloge du fermier ! Comment est-ce possible ? s’étonne Johnny. - But it’s Max, the cuckoo in the farmer’s clock ! How can that be ? Johnny wonders.
