The Phoneme function is only available with a monthly or yearly reading aid subscription.
What is a phoneme? A phoneme is the smallest unit of sound in the French language. There are vowel sounds and consonant sounds. In order to decipher, we must establish the link between a sound (phoneme) and its written forms (graphemes). Learning to read therefore requires the recognition and mastery of these sounds. The « a » sound is found in « abricot » or « plage », but in « flan » and « ampoule », it is no longer the same sound. It is now the « an » sound.
For each story, you can color the phonemes. But how do you do this?
Select the children’s book you want. You will then arrive on the book’s page.
- Click on the green « Read » tab, display the text by clicking on this icon at the top right:
- Once the text is displayed on your screen, click on this icon at the bottom right:
- Many functions are available including a Sounds/Letters board:
You can select one or several sounds you want to identify for better decoding and reading or to work in class if you are a teacher.
We have separated vowel sounds and consonant sounds. We recommend you do not select more than 3 phonemes at the same time to stay clear and efficient.
If you want, you can turn on this function with another one, or more: punctuation, voice synthesis… Once your functions are selected, click on the cross on the right of your screen, and let’s read!
